Just upgraded from the Intel W-3223 8 core processor to the W-3275Mprocessor. Since I'm now using the computer that means I didn't kill it - YEEEHAAA!

Now I'd like to keep track of the new CPU's temperature just to try to be a bit on the safe side.

What temperature monitoring software do you-all recommend for this job?

Thank you in advance,

Tom

TECK,

Thanks. I got it installed.

iStat seems very nice. Except I can't figure out how to get it to show the CPU temperature. Is there a trick to it?

OK. I wrote to the iStat folks and the problem got solved. Here's how they responded:

"Thanks for your email.

We do have a beta available with support for the new Mac Pro’s. It can be downloaded here:"

I downloaded the beta and the temps can now be seen.

Their message is: if you have a Mac Pro 7,1 you need to get the iStat beta software. Then you will see the CPU temps.

Leon,

Thanks for the link. Alas, I could'nt get it to install. The page said version 3.70 for Mac, then linked a "version - free" dmg file. At the end of the install process it gave an "installation failed" message and died.

Tom

UPDATE: I did a DuckDuckGo search and found this: https://mac.filehorse.com/download-intel-power-gadget/

It installed, claimed to be version 3.7.0 and did appear to work. I couldn't figure out how to make it stay in the top bar so I could see it when I clicked on it like iStat does, but it did seem to give the data I was looking for. Thanks for the clue!

That's strange. I've been using that app for my Mac Pro and it even updated itself. Let me check what file I downloaded.

I just installed it in my MacBook Pro 16 that I never installed it under. No issues. Took me 2 minutes total from download to install.

Leon,

That's exactly the file and process I used the first try. No idea why it failed.

See my edited message above for the rest of the story.

I monitor the temperature of the CPU with the free Intel app - Intel Power Gadget. You don't need to buy external apps for it.
I'm looking for much more than CPU temps, for example I want to monitor the Northbridge temps. iStats is perfect for my needed Mac monitoring.

Bought iStats, it doesn't show any temperature sensors on the 2020 MacBook Pro. Then got TG Pro and it works perfectly. Looking at iStats update notes, it seems they update it to work on the new year's Macs in November or something like that. I regret buying it.

TG Pro for me.

TG Pro is ****ing awesome, being able to manually set the fans to blast at a certain temp is great!

What's everyone's setting? I have mine set to blast the fan at 70c, I know that's not too hot but I like to keep it cool and I don't mind the fans blasting to keep my new MBP 16 cool!
