I wanted to install Solaris 9 x86 on a VPC image just because it's a handy reference when I'm at a customers site.

The problem is that the install program sees VPC as a 486 which isn't supported. Is there a way to get VPC to return a different CPU id?

It appears to depend on the speed of your Mac and version of VPC. VPC 6 on my dual 1 ghz G4 reports as a PII 666mhz. Other people with VPC 6 and somewhat slower computers report somewhat slower VPC speeds-down to 233 or so. I'm not sure what makes yours appear as a 486...unless you're using a Quadra or something.

It's running on a 1ghz imac so speed shouldn't be an issue. It might have more to do with the Solaris dectection mechanism than with VPC but I thought I'd check.

So there isn't anywhere to tell it what CPU to report?
