So, i've read where folks have upgraded their CPUs in their Mac Minis at home (putty knife not included) to 2.16 or 2.3, etc, however I haven't seen if anyone has determined a maximum speed for C2D CPUs that can be "dropped in". I'm curious if anyone knows what the heat/voltage effects would be on the Mini. Basically, I'm sitting in front of my TV watching Juno on my Mini and I think to myself "I wonder if I could drop a 3.0ghz chip in this baby and max the RAM and achieve maximum pwnage?" Well, could I? And if not the 3ghz which is eminently affordable at $175 from Newegg then what is the maximum? Anyone know?

CPU upgrade maximum for Mac Mini C2D?

I agree with Cave Man. At almost $700 for the CPU at NewEgg a Refurb iMac starts looking like a better choice, since even with a faster CPU you are stuck with the graphics limitations of the Mini not to mention accessible memory stops at 3GB even if you add 4GB.
Wow, totally not worth it
Yeah, I don't really "need" more power out of the Mini. I just wanted to make it incredibly, disgustingly awesome. I looked last night after I posted this and saw that the wattage out of the Mini power supply simply WON'T be able to push a 3.0ghz and the temp tolerances look all wrong too. I didn't even get into socket size.
I wonder why the 2.33 Merom is so expensive and also, how in the heck is it more expensive than the 3.0ghz?
