There is a crack in palmrest area between the edge of the case and where the screen magnetically latches itself when closed on the right side, seems to have been cause by the tab that keeps the screen resting slightly above the palmrest and the keyboard, the crack is about an inch long, my question is will apple replace the entire top palm rest portion...my macbooks 9 months old by the way...i looked for a thread about a problem like this but only came across happenings of cracking on the bottom side near the hinge area... i kinda doubt they will replace the part, being a cosmetic problem, but i just wanted some other peoples opinions.
i tried to get some pictures but the lighting where im at right now didn't permit.

Apple should replace it considering the magnetic latch is likely at fault of the crack. Try calling AppleCare (only if you have the extended AppleCare plan, if you don't then your phone support has run out, so don't do this.) and telling them to see if they can give you an answer. Otherwise I'd set up a Genius Bar meeting and talk to them about it.

Hard to say, I think it's likely that it depends on the given Genius you might happen to speak with.

FTR, here are a few relevant threads. Hopefully you can glean something helpful from at least one of them.

Yes, Apple should replace this part. I had a similar problem recently. The crack was positioned directly below the ridge that prevents the LCD being pressed onto the keyboard area. I was informed by Apple that they have procedures in place for specific types of crack caused by the strength of the magnet pulling that ridge too hard onto the palmrest.

Don't let them say no to this. See my post here: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=3893781#post3893781
