So I was at the airport about to check my bags and I decided to throw my iPhone in to the bag. When I landed and got my iPhone out of the bag the screen was cracked. I don't know what to do. Would Apple bless me and give me a new one or what? Here is a picture of my phone.

So you threw your unprotected iPhone in your bag, it broke and you think Apple should pay for it? I'm thinking the answer is no.

Next time use an Otterbox Defender case.

Ouch! Does the screen come on at all? I have seen an iPod Touch with a cracked screen but it still comes on. Apple will not do anything about it but you might be able to replace the plastic covering the screen for cheap if there are no internal parts damaged.

Yes I know it's my fault. Yes the phone still works fine. The touch screen works fine and I can hear people when I call and they can hear me.

:apple: won't replace it but you can always get a screen replacement kit off Ebay and try it.. or send it in to one of the places listed since your warranty is void now anyway..

In most cases, it should; the damage is on the outer glass portion only. The touch portion may not be entirely functional, not to mention it could easily cut your finger with the glass.

Correct, Apple will not help you. FYI, though, the iPhone's screen is glass, not plastic. It was originally plastic when it was shown at Macworld 2007, but then Apple announced they had changed it to a glass screen.

The display assembly on the iPhone (the 2G version, which from your photo I can see you have) also contains the LCD and the digitizer, so a) it's going to cost over $100 and b) you can't buy JUST the glass. Apple realized this when they developed the 3G and made the glass separate from the rest of the display.

If you're interested in doing it yourself, I'd check iFixit or another one of those parts places and see if they've got it (it'll be sold under "display assembly"). I don't recommend doing it yourself though. I tried doing that with my first iPhone and ended up buying a new iPhone. Apple may do this for you, but they'll charge you somewhere around $250 if I recall correctly. There are some other companies that'll do it for less, but they're not authorized by Apple; seeing as the warranty on most 2Gs is up anyways, I'd look for one of those.

Good luck! :)

I have a 16GB white.

Sorry, I was mistaken. In the photo you attached, it wasn't 100% obvious which phone it was so I zoomed in (gotta love Leopard's zoom function!) and thought I saw the aluminum backplate + black antenna cover coloring.

In that case, you could still do it yourself (voiding the warranty, but saving money, and hoping you don't mess anything up), let Apple do it (keeping the warranty, but paying up the nose), or let some 3rd party do it (voiding the warranty, but costing less money and knowing you'll get the phone back functional).

Honestly... I'd try doing it myself, but I'm probably a little too daring, seeing as I've already tried once and messed up.
