Unfortunately, I forgot to add AppleCare to this device.

This is gonna cost me like $750 to replace, right? At that point, may as well get a new device.

I have noticed that the M4 screen is a bit more fragile than prior iPads in general. Something to be aware of. If/when I replace this, AppleCare is a must…

Why do you say that the M4 screen is a bit more fragile than prior iPads in general? Last night, my M4 13" fell from a chair to the floor, landing screen down, without any damage.

I was on my balcony and the wind blew over my iPad - unfortunately it fell flat on its screen ☹️

Given the expense of the screen, the iPad is definitely a device where AppleCare is necessary.

I suspect OP would disagree
Extended warranties aren't worth it over time. You are better off just paying for repairs out of pocket.

With large mobile device that is all screen, and features a pretty technically advanced screen at that, I would advise everyone get AppleCare. Screen repair with Apple care is $29. I’m looking at basically the cost of an iPad Air to replace my screen now.

I unfortunately cracked my 11” iPad Pro m4 as well. It cost $99 to get the screen replaced. They just shipped a new iPad.

Sadly looks like the new screens are less warm and are more prone to color shifting looking from an angle. I was comparing with my wife’s M4 iPad Pro 11” and the colors on hers a bit more vibrant and the reflections from lights etc are a tab better than my new one. I think the originals were all Samsung and this must be another manufacturer, maybe LG.

I agree... for me. I've never purchased AC for any of my many Apple products. Never needed it. I've saved $1000's (perhaps $10,000) as a result.

But that's not everybody. My adult daughter drops her devices on a regular basis... for her, AC is a must.

Wow sorry to hear that I just bought the iPad 11 and I definitely had to get a case for it but I also put Apple care on it too

I used to get AppleCare on all my stuff and then of course never needed to use it. Then I stopped and of course it would have come in handy. So now I mix and match. I have it on my AW 9, my main iPad (also the 2024 iPad Pro 11), but don't on my this iPhone (but I got it used), or my latest Macs (M3 MBA, M4 mini Pro). Typically I don't get it on Macs anymore because I tend to get them Costco which gives me the extra year anyway. It was great when CitiCard also doubled that, but they dropped that feature.

Anyway, yeah replacing the screen without AC+ is expensive on its own. Still might be worth it on a 2024, but not older. My 2021 iPad Pro USB-C connector went out and they want more for it than what I could buy even a newer one refurbished so not worth it. Charging using the keyboard case now.

Absolutely true! If they didn't make money for the companies issuing them, they would not be offered. The value to the user is the peace of mind knowing that if the device is a lemon, you can get it replaced at no additional cost to you. Rare, but possible. One only has to decided which you want more, the peace of mind, or the money.

I would say they’re a must on anything with new tech in it - OLED screens - or anything that would cost in the region of four figures to replace. If I bought a base iPad or an iPad Air now, I’d go without, but not a Pro.

I’ve had it on my last two Cellular Minis - and have kept it rolling on the Mini 6 at this point because I don’t want to be forced to buy an iPad without a sim slot before an OLED one comes out.

To OP, I would not buy a lower spec Pro - that surely makes it worth the amount to have the screen fixed (effectively a refurbished replacement) to keep the spec that you have - unless Apple would not allow AC+ to be added to the new unit?

I just wanted to take a chance and share my story. I didn’t always get AppleCare on my iPads until one time. I dropped my fourth generation and it didn’t crack the screen, but it separated the back from the screen where moisture and water would get in and luckily, I had AppleCare and they just gave me a brand new product. You know you get scratch screens and such along the way and screen protectors are great for that, but I was gifted a really nice bamboo stand for my iPad and one time I was soaking and as I stood up to get the towel it swung around and hit my then three month old iPad Pro directly into the bathwater and I like a speeding bullet reached into the tub to pull out a fully submerged iPad Pro shaking it frivolously there was still water inside the camera lens and inside the product. It was toast and I got it replaced luckily it was only 120 bucks to replace for a brand new one. I’m guessing it would’ve been close to seven or $800. The iPad was worth 1400 being cellular. I am so happy for Apple Care. I never use that bamboo stand again or the iPad near water.
