Got my new 21.5" iMac and ran the initial set-up. When asked if I would like to transfer information, I told it to transfer from a time machine backup and plugged in my external HD. The computer shut itself off towards the end of the data transfer. I turned it back on, and ran through the set-up again. Once complete, the system was stuck at the registration screen, since I couldn't select my user account due to their now being two of the same user accounts installed (apparently some of the data from the first start up made it). I had to start up form the install disk, then just did a complete wipe. I installed os x and everything is running fine, just trying to decide how to transfer my information. My question is, is it bad to wipe and reinstall an os on a brand new iMac? Never done it before, but my intuition tells me it shouldn't be a problem...so long as everything else holds up fine (applecare seems to think it will). Your thoughts?
