Hi,
I need help on a crash.
When I walked into the room where my Imac is I expected it to be on standby instead I see a grey screen telling me to restart my computer in several languages.
So I turn it off and back on again and My os will not boot.
I have a dual boot panther on one patration and tiger on the other.
I can boot into panther but not tiger.
When I try to boot into toiger it gives me alot of errors in text format and under those errors the sign thing telling me to restart my computer is there.
When I browse the file system (of the tiger partition) in panther it looks like all of the files are there.
What is wrong any help will be good.
Thanks.

so do you run a toight Toiger system? :p :D
(sorry, couldn't resist.)

what do those text errors look like? kernel panic? i wouldn't expect it to be a hardware problem if it will boot Panther. Sometimes OS X just screws it self up and you've got to re-install.

Apart from searching on the 'net and seeing if there's any other cases of this sort of thing happening, I'd say that you've just got to re-install OS X.

Have you installed any new RAM or peripherals recently? A kernal panic can signify a hardware fault.

Rich.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply
No I have not.
Nothing has changed as far as hardware in a long time.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.,
I can onty only boot this Imac g5 in to panther at this time.
The errors that come up when I boot are more then the screen can display and then lock up with the message telling me to restart my computer.

I will probably have to reinstall tiger.

do the disk utility from the starup CD and repair disk from there. Use the tiger one to repair the tiger permission

can you boot verbose mode to see where it is failing?
