Craziest thing every

I have a mac mini and I am using Snow Leopard and I am having the strangest thing happen. Many of my folders are completely empty in the finder and when I am dowloading but they all show up in Bridge exactly as they are. I haven't a clue what to do, I have updated my Snow Leopard and restarted several times. Has anyone out there had this happen or can help me since of course I am very time challenged on the project that I am working on. Thanks
