OK, I Have Crossover and Recently Bought Two new Games for My Mac, Half Life: blue Shift and Opposing Force ($10 for Both), already have Half Life:Source, CSS, and I also got Portal and am running it natively of course, but was getting frustrated having to boot into both. So I had the idea for valve and crossover to allow users to buy Crossover:Steam so when you buy a game in steam or import a non-steam game that is windows and it will emulate it for you! So no two steams and no lack of steam games for mac! While yes some will not run well emulated so steam would advise if it had silver, gold, bronze, or not Known to work. What do you Think? PS it will be Built into steam and all.

I think that would be a disaster. Most people don't want "emulated" games, and Valve is already working hard to bring all of its existing games over. Just be patient for a little while longer :)

I understand that the half life series will come but what about other games that work well emulated that will not be ported? This would open even more options to run on steam especially for people(not me  ) who don't like valve games. Its not just me and Half Life Games I am thinking of:mad:

That would give developers even less reason to port their games over then, as everyone can already play them what would be the point spending time to go back and port it over.

This would be interesting for them to do, but I think the best way to prevent developer's from being lazy and using crossover as a shortcut would be to have some kind of age requirement or so on the game. The game would have to be older than a certain point or you couldn't use the crossover method. for example I Have a copy of Deus Ex on my steam account, it is likely that it, a early 2000's game, will ever be ported, but I would like to play it without windows, crossover could help me, and the developers, who might not even exist anymore, don't have to worry about porting an older game.

I think they should all be native, though some games could run through Dosbox and get away with it. No to Crossover.

Steam games would run a lot slower in crossover than native. I can wait for the native versions.

Good lord no! I've been using terrible ports on my mac for ages now, and as soon as there is a glimmer of hope for a decent native Mac game collection, you suggest going back to emulation.

As Dagless said, I think ScummVM and Dosbox is the limit as far as emulation is concerned. Afterall, even Windows has to emulate its old 8/16 bit programs now.
