Well I made it to my AppleStore about 6:00 tonight.

Went in and a white Macbook was out, so I played around on it for a little bit. Felt pretty good, but the black one next to it just looked awesome!

As soon as the black one opened up I went right over to it and started playing around. At this point I was pretty set on the black one.

Well back over to the white, and then back to black, and then back to the white. This happened for about 30 mins. Eventually I got online and started to configure some Macbooks.

I settled on a 1.83 White, with 1 GB ram and 80 GB HD. Placed my order, and had a est. deliv of like 10 days. Went to eat at the Rainforest cafe, and while there I decided that for the same price, I could have got a 2.0 White, 512 Ram, and a 60 GB hard (Plus the superdrive). So while eating I decided to call up Apple and cancell my original order. Went back to the AppleStore, and walked out with a basic 2.0 White.

I really hope down the road I'll benefit from the added processer and Superdrive. My thought was that the ram and HD are user upgradable, while the SD and Processor speed are not.

After I sell my Powerbook and some other junk, I'll order the GB of ram, and eventually grab an Ext. HD.

There some pics of it in the Macbook picture thread. I'll keep everyone posted on how it works.

Anyone have any comments on which was better? My original (upgraded 1.8) or the one I went home with (stock 2.0)

Thanks

Jake

I think your thinking is right on. Ram and HD are upgradeable now, by you, so what you did was get the best processor you could in the config you wanted. When it's time to upgrade later, you can.

Enjoy that puppy now!

I'm just as indecisive as you when it comes to spending that much money. We call it buyer's remorse. ;)

You sure you don't want the black one now? :D

I'm having a really hard time deciding myself because I really, really want the black one but I didn't plan on spending that much money because it isn't going to be my main computer since I have a PowerBook that I plan on upgrading to a MBP in a few months. It seems like the White 2.0GHz is the best deal and I might just go that route for now in hopes that the black will eventually come down in price and I will be upgrading with the next round anyway.

I'm contemplating mine.
Black Macbook £875.74
Canon MP150 Printer £35.28
1GB RAM Stick £94.99
512MB RAM Stick FREE
Microsoft Mouse 400 £21.96

Total £1027.97

What does everyone think about it???

Two new additions:
Lexar Jump Drive 1GB £25.02
Dicota Pep.up Bag £27.54

1GB RAM is £60 from scan, that should get you down to £1000.

Where are you getting it at this price? (I can hazard a guess, but please enlighten us ;) )

I don't think the MacBook comes with one 512MB stick, I think it has 2 256 sticks. For one, I think it says this somewhere on the tech specs page, and Apple also recommends that there is an equal amount of RAM in each slot. So, they wouldn't put 512 in one and leave the other empty.

This might put a damper on your plan. :(

I have a 512MB stick that i am not using at the moment. Apple recommends equal but it does not need it.

scan.co.uk ??? ;)
Yes, I have two 1GB sticks from them, one in my iMac and one in my MacBook Pro. They work great. Only £50 each (without VAT), sure beats Apple's BTO pricing

Thanks for that. £51.40 (£40 less)
What do you think of the 2 new items???

No bother you couldnt post the link to the page with the right mem, I find scans website a pain to navigate :)

So do i. I ended up using the search at the top and searching "667 DDR2 1GB" and it came out.

Hmm. That's CAS 5, which is slow. It's a great deal at the moment, but you can get cheaper faster CAS 3 in the US right now. Prices are sure to drop further.
That is the only one that i have found. Like i said, the site is a bitch to navigate and i haven't looked around it.

Good Choice, and in the future you can just throw a higher stick of ram and i think the coolest feature now is the easy removable HD so you can throw a 100 gig 2.5 in there for cheap. btw on tiger direct you can get one right now for 129.99
