Create book jacket

Hello,

I think this may be the place to ask this. My son needs to create a book jacket for a school project. Would any of you happen to know where we could find a template that would allow him to create and print a book jacket for the nice price of free? I have seen a few where you could create on and then send it to them for printing, but that is more intense than he requires.

I did find a company called blurb, but I'm not sure you can create and print.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What software do you have to use? Depending on what you have available it should be pretty easy to set this up yourself. You just need to set your page up to be as wide as 2x page width, plus enough space to include the foldover parts which secure the jacket to the book, and a spine dependent on the thickness of the book itself.

Then it's just a case of laying out four guides to separate the sections and adding the necessary content.

As for printing, if it's a simple mock up for school you should be able to print on a home printer. If you want something more substantial you should be able to export your final file as a PDF which any reputable commercial printer should be able to roll off for you as a digital print to whatever size you require.

im in design school right now, i just did this. an easier way to make one would be to find a book with a book cover and measure the book cover with a ruler. then you can easily set your guides like he stated above.

You can't just rely on that though. Books vary massively in size and as such the jacket size needs to relate to the size of the project you're working on. As long as the front size is correct and you allow enough bleed at the edges you can be a little off on the spine allowance as it will be barely noticeable when the cover wraps round.

Of course if it's just an exercise you can make the thing whatever size you fancy as though it looks ok.
