Create "reminders" in Mail?

Hi all,
Apple says that "Reminders also works with iCal, Outlook, and iCloud, so changes you make update automatically on all your devices and calendars."

Does this mean that I can create a reminder in either Mail or Outlook and have it pushed directly to my iPhone in the reminders app?

If so, how are reminders created in Mail or Outlook?
