I think something might be buggy with my user account. How can I make a new user account and transfer ALL of my files and settings ( an exact copy) from my original account. I went into system preferences and then created a new user account but things such as my iTunes, iPhoto pictures, sleep settings, wallpaper didn't transfer over. How can I make an exact copy of my original user account? Thanks.

Mmm, I hate to point out the obvious. No, actually, I rather enjoy it and hunt for posts that allow me to do it. :D

If your account is buggy, that bug lies somewhere in the settings. What you want are all the subdirectories in your account's home folder -- the iTunes library is in Music, the iPhoto library is in Pictures, etc. The preferences are in ~/Library. You can move these over by logging in as old-you, putting them in the /users/shared folder, and then moving them to your new you account as new you.

But if you copy that, pretty much guarantee you that you will get the old problem in the new account.

Thanks. So then what do I do if I want to keep all of my old files and settings and widgets and move them over to the new account but not transfer the bug that was on the previous account?

The slow process of going through each app you use and transferring the preferences over to the new account via the method mkrishnan suggested.

Really annoying I know, do you have any idea what this bug is, (i.e. what apps are affected by the bug, what occurs by the bug) maybe a member here know the problem :)

What I would recommend in addition...

- You can transfer every folder in your home folder with impunity except the Library folder.

- In your library folder are mostly preferences that aren't hard to re-create, but your mail is in there if you use Mail.app, and so is your calendar. You're probably safe with transferring your mail by moving the ~/library/mail folder over to the homologue location. For iCal, I would make a backup database and then import that file in iCal on the other account.

You can case by case the rest, I guess.....

Or maybe you should see if another account works at all... what a waste of time it would be to find that it wasn't your setting after all. I think it easier for you to tell us what the 'buggy' symptoms are first. :)
