Creating a partition in Vista

Hello All,

I just ordered my MBP and I will be installing Vista for my course work.

I have opted for the 500GB hard drive, which I plan to divide equally between Leopard and Vista.

I was wondering if it is possible to create another partition (or two) within this Vista installation (e.g. C:, D:, E:, etc...).

Please provide your suggestions,

When you mean partition more times, are you planning on using as general hard drive space for Vista to use or installing another OS?

As far as I know, You can do that under Disk Management in Vista. Downside, it might cause Leopard to not recognize the Boot Camp partition.

Also, why go with Vista? Upgrade to Windows 7! It's basically Vista, just fixed.

I would prefer Vista, since it has been in the market for more than two years and well tested.

I am planning to dedicate a partition that can be shared (both read and write) between Leopard and Vista. Can this be achieved by using the Disk Management software in Vista and creating a FAT32 partition?

You can't create sub-partitions in any OS as far as I'm aware. I would create a partition of the size you need for Vista in boot camp and then use disk utility to create any additional partitions that you need.

Yes, you can do this but I don't recommend it. You should be able to go through the Boot Camp menu in utilities while in OS X and go through the motions of creating a Windows partition. Then use a Windows install DVD to format the partition into NTFS and then turn around, don't install Windows on that partition. When you boot back, Windows should be able to read the NTFS partition with a drive letter. Like I said, it is possible, but I haven't tried it. Has anyone else?

Use boot camp for the vista installation and then use disk utility for any other partitions you might need. Just make sure that you are taking the space from the OSX partition not the bootcamp partition because if you take it from the bootcamp partition, bootcamp might not recognize the drive.
