Hey,

so I have no coding background or anything but I have an idea for an app I would like to make. I was wondering if anyone can suggest a starting point? I have noticed websites like 'appsme' which claim to help create apps with no coding, but I presumed there's a way they make money and I'll lose out?

In an idea world I would like to make money from the app via adverts or whatever.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? be it software to download or a website which will genuinely help me build it? I do have good knowledge of photoshop, if that's any help.

Sorry if this has been posted a thousand times.

thank you

The websites that build iOS apps can only build certain types of simple limited apps. (But perhaps your app is this simple and limited.) Learning to develop more fully featured apps on your own can take many many months up to two years, if not more.

The other option is to hire an experienced iOS app developer, which can cost quite a bit, depending on the type of app and the experience of the developer. But being able to mock up the app in photoshop will decrease to cost and increase the chances of success significantly.

The vast majority of iOS apps do not make any significant money, far less than 10% make enough to return the cost of development.

Yes, your question has been posted around many more than 1000 times.

So if I have an idea for a simple app, like dealing with emoticons, would that be easier than something that has a lot more to it?

Uh, can't really tell you whether or not an app "dealing with emoticons" is goi to be simple or not.

As a general rule of thumb if you aren't willing to devote 6 months to learning how to program (including iOS) then I wouldn't even bother. There are those who are experts after 3 weeks but they generally have extensive previous object oriented programming experience.

Best bet is to mock it up, on paper or in photoshop, and see if you can explain the idea in person to several experienced programmers. Average their estimates and multiply by 3X for an approximation of the difficulty.
