Creating motion graphics (advanced animations) in Keynote

Hi there,
after a bit of experimenting I've just published a showcase of what you can do with Keynote as an animation tool: The Fight for Better Presentations is an animated short about presentation design that I only edited in iMovie to flow with the music. The Keynote source files are available for download.

Brilliant!

The only piece that I couldn't piece together was the door opening, letting white light into the dark room.

An excellent example of how powerful the Keynote animation tools can be -- your blog's got a bookmark!

The door animation is a bit complex, using several slides with magic move, scaling and motion paths. The surprising thing is that magic move recognizes a shape that was scaled without keeping the proportions true!

Anyway, since you can download the source file I trust you have by now figured it out after all ;-)

Ahem, I am terribly sorry, but it looks like I messed up the download link. iWork.com does not allow download for public files that you can embed it seems, so I created a new link. I hope everything is working now, but then again it does not look like anyone here complained so far, so maybe you did not care anyway ;-)

Really quiet interesting to have this kind of motion graphics. As this will helps a lot in many of the further projects. Good luck and wish you all the best for your further improvement.

Hmm, why Keynote, when Ae and Ai are built for the job, and infinitely more powerful?

Sorry for the late reply, vacation got in the way

@glossywhite I don't quite know which job you are referring to, but surely neither AfterEffects nor Illustrator are suitable tools for live presentations?

I know that I was pushing the limits for the sake of showcasing what can be done and that timeline based animation programs would provide similar results faster. Then again if you know the limitations of Keynote some animations are very easy to accomplish (Magic Move!) and it is much cheaper and much more accessible for those who only occasionally need a bit of animation and not a full fledged motion graphics package. Hence this little experiment.

Please bear in mind that I did draw the vector art outside of Keynote and import it for animation. You are right that this part of the project is just plain unproductive in Keynote. I'm glad you like the end result, thank you.
