Creating Window 7 boot disk w/Disk Utility

I'm currently in the process of trying to install Win7 on my Macbook Pro (purchased July '07) using an ISO burned to a DVD with Disk Utility. Unfortunately, the DVD isn't bootable, and while the symptoms match what's in this blog post, the author's solution involved using a Windows-only program.

I'd like to know if it's possible to re-burn the ISO without the version number in the filenames as in the original solution, but with Disk Utility or something else that a Mac can use.

Sorry to ask this, but did you torrent (legally) the install ISO or not?

Sometimes if the torrent isn't legal, there are issues with burning/installing. Also, try to find a copy of the ISO that isn't modified from the original content. That means if it has a version number in it's name, leave it that way!

All the Windows installs I've created have worked fine when I burned them through Disk Utility. I burn them at a very slow rate and have it verify data once it's done burning.

It actually doesnt have anything to do with the downloaded torrent version.
There is efi issue with the microsoft downloaded copy as well. Yes you are going to need to run something to update the bootsector on that dvd.
Here is the exact instructions I used , why dont you just install Parallels trial version or something.
I have updated 7100 and 7127 with this procedure fine.

My problem is that fix requires a Windows machine to apply, and I don't have a Windows machine.

One way is to install Win 7 to your machine using VMware Fusion (free download and will let you install from an iso). Then from the virtual windows, burn the image on your SuperDrive using Nero or Roxio. Then install to the BootCamp partition.

I downloaded Win 7 from Microsoft and then burned the image in Toast on a Mac - Win 7 installed perfectly.

I would never use Apple Disk Utility to burn a Windows boot disk anyway...

Toast works fine on a Mac........

Ditto that. Toast has never failed me. Ever. Never really used Disk Utility to burn a disc.

How do I use Burn to make a bootable disk from the ISO?

I just tried to use Toast Titanium 10 and apparently I didn't use the right setting to burn my Windows installer (Windows 7 RC) disk because when I tell Boot Camp Assistant to "Start Windows Installation", it comes back with a message saying no installer disc found

Could someone tell me what setting to use in Toast to produce an installer disc from the iso file downloaded from Microsoft? I can't seem to get this to work with either the settings that seem correct to me in Toast or with any setting in Disk Utility.
