They could have at least used the color capability of the iPad to do something creative with the lighting.

Once we start getting LED-based speedlights and studio lights one of the advantages would be color control which means not needing to use gels anymore

Kinda cool but he was shooting @ iso800 f/1.2 and 9 ipads, meaning it wasn't that bright. I'd be more impressed if it was just one iPad. Nonetheless, it's still impressive and great thinking out of the box.
