Is there a benefit from using this with the iMac? I am not sure how the iMacs sound card compares to this one, therefore I would like to know if I should get it since I listen to music a lot. However, most of my music is ripped over iTunes from my CD collections so I do it over 192kB.

I know that there are some threads regarding the x-mod but they did not answer my question.

It is good according to the reviews, but I would like to know if it would make a positive differance over the iMacs sound card.

:)

I've got one on my white c2d iMac, and I can definitely tell a difference on the high and low ends when I play music on it using my JBL monster speakers. Got it at compusa in OKC when it was going out of business.

Can I live without it? Certainly. Can I definitely tell when it's not working? Yes.

If you're finicky about the audio coming out of your computer, get it. Just make sure where you're getting it from has a return policy.

Only thing there is to say is: It really really depends on what speakers you use. If you have some crappy speakers logitech or sth you would want one. If you use nice speakers like AudioEngine's you really don't want one because these speakers sound amazing and adding extra stuff which messes op your sound doesn't help. My recommendation get good speakers and your sound will be much better than using such a device. (btw the Imac's soundcard is great, Imac is uses by pro's etc so you don't need it for the soundcard only for the effects)

Thank you very much guys for the help. I have two sets of speakers (Logitech Z5500 for gaming and Harman/Kardon Soundsticks II connected to my iMac all the time while listening to music) so would the x-mod add to the Soundsticks?

You could do that, it may improve a bit if it is your taste, but if I may give advice. Sell the both sets, and buy the AudioEngine A5's. You will be very very astonished with what you brought into your home. Music will sound awsome like 1k speakers and games will still sound very good.

Sounds like you finally bought the A5s after much consideration and debate. :)

No problem. Glad you like 'em. I've had my A5s about a year now and still enjoy crankin' them up!
