I ordered a Macbook Pro 15" on June 7th. The est shipping date has been July 20th due to the 160GB 7200RPM drive I ordered. However they just charged my credit card this afternoon. Does this mean they are getting ready to ship it or is there no correlation? I ordered an iPod with it (same order) and that was separately charged right before it shipped yesterday.

Correct. Your card is preauth'd immediately, then when they actually post the charge it means it's about to ship out.

Thanks for the info. I checked with my credit card company and it seems it was actually just a pre-authorization. Although it does seem strange that they would pre-authorize the iPod and Macbok Pro at different times.

I ordered a 17" with the 7200rpm drive when it was showing a 4-6 week delay, and today noticed that (in addition to the credit card preauth) it is now showing that I am unable to cancel it online. For the first few days after ordering, clicking the "cancel order" button brought up a screen asking for the reason for cancellation, now it says that the order cannot be cancelled online, probably because it's being prepped for shipment. ;)

So give it a try and report back, don't be afraid of accidentally cancelling it, if you can, it will ask you to confirm. :)

I tried and it seems to allow me to cancel still. Oh well. Good to know though - I will most likely now be obsessed with trying to see if I can cancel my Macbook Pro every 15 minutes! I know for the 17" MPB there is no longer a delay for the 7200RPM drive when pricing it out in the Apple store and others have reported that theirs have shipped but no one has reported this for the 15" yet. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Apple has significantly overestimated the time to ship.
