Just bought a new MBA, I didn't buy AppleCare (normally I don't).

I bought it using my credit card which will extend the warranty by 1-year.

Just curious - have you ever put a claim through your CC company and was it a hassle, or is it a fairly reliable process.

I’ve done two or three claims over the last 15 years with AMEX and it was an OK process. No hassle, took a few weeks to get the credit.

AMEX dropped that feature from a few of their cards awhile back though, so not sure if that signifies any change to the process for their cards that still have it.

I do like that AppleCare+ for Macs now covers accidental damage. That’ll make me think more about getting it next time I buy a MacBook.

I think the bigger question is what does the credit card cover under the extended warranty, because Apple is not responsible for anything out of warranty. Odds are pretty good the terms are in their favor, not yours.

I've done one claim under such warranty, through Discover. I don't recall it being horribly difficult, other than proving I deserved reimbursement.

I had a pair of Motorola Bluetooth headphones that developed a crack in the band, they were outside the warranty period from Motorola but still within the coverage from Discover. Figured I'd file a claim and see if it stuck. This had become a known issue with those headphones, and Motorola had apparently updated later versions with a softer plastic to reduce the cracking. After submitting my pictures and proof that there seemed to be an issue with the plastic on those headphones (to make the case that it wasn't abuse) Discover approved me to go buy another pair on my card and they would issue a credit after I submitted the receipt.

I haven't used it for a warranty claim but AMEX has always been hassle-free for whatever issues I had, I wonder if anyone has experience with Costco (Citi). I plan to buy my next MacBook from Costco since I can get a 4-year warranty on it but I do appreciate Applecare covering accidentals now.

Just put a case on your air since warranty claims could be denied for chips, just had apple deny my pixel bleed claim because there are chips on the side of the display from being too close to a wall......

Yeah I like the idea of that too, but there's still a "deductible" for accidental damage claims too so it can still be pretty expensive to purchase.

From what I have read, it would cover anything the manufacturer would - but it's one of those things that I won't likely know until/if/when I need to use it.

If your credit card lets you submit a claim online, maybe do a test run and see how far you can go before you have to submit the claim. You may learn more about what they require, etc.
