The credit approval happens when you activate the iPhone, through AT&T. IMO if it's questionable whether you will be approved, chances are an iPhone would not be the best choice.
They already said I was approved when I got my credit checked from AT&T a couple days ago but I want to double check to make sure they're will be no problems because I heard people got their credit checked and were given the ok but took the phone home and said something about calling AT&T for their credit check or something.

I really wish ppl would stop typing this all over the forums. Its getting very old and tired. Nobody comes here asking for financial advice, and Ive never seen this posted on any of the new apple computer releases. But with the release of the iphone we have all kinds of people trying to be snobs and giving their not so humble opinion on what other people should be doing with their own money. The OP didnt ask you anything related to your opinion on how s/he should spend. Besides AT&T has options for people who have credit challenged situations.
To the OP, I got my credit pre approved on the phone and everything went fine when I entered my BAN number in itunes. However, some people have reported having problems even after being approved. Its really up in the air until you actually try to activate the phone. No one here can assure you that you wont have problems. But at least if you do you know where to come read and someone will probably have already posted a solution or who/where to contact.
