so i installed Garage band, made a quick, 10 second loop, and exported it to itunes. It opened up itunes, and EVERYTHING was gone!!! Playlists, ratings, play counts, play dates, artists, albums, it was all gone!!! Well i reboooted, and relaunched itunes. I imported my itunes library .xml file, and it brought everything back. EXCEPT PLAY COUNTS AND TIMES!! now all of my smart playlists are useless! how do i get my play counts back? i havnt had a problem since my data loss last may, and regularly back up my itunes 4 music library, my itunes.xml file and temp file on my ipod. WHAT DO I DO???

BTW, safari also refuses to prompt me to save my password when logging in to these forums. It saves for all other sites though. WHY??? how do i get my computer to stop screwing around with me? this has all happened in the past 3 days!!!

PPS: It did this for no reason at all. Garage band opened itunes, and it was all gone....

Well, I hope you backed up your library file recently, because it's probably gone like Britney Spear's virginity :D

actually, i backed up my library file like 30 minutes before this happened! also, i havnt dared sync my ipod to ituens, cause its set to automatically update. Thus far, my ipod still has all the stuff on it! i just dont know how to use that file "itunes 4 music library". What do i use to open it??

repair permissions. do not pass go, do not collect $200... maybe reboot afterwords. sounds like you've got some permission problems, i think.

i'm in the process of repairing permissions now, but i double clicked the itunes 4 music library file, and it opened, and itunes came up, but the play counts and play dates are still missing...whats strange is that the date added is still there, as if it was stored in a different place....

Just repaired permissions, and still doesnt have the play counts. This is really important for me, because a lot of my playlists are based on that. As i said, my ipod hasnt been synced since the crash, so it still has all the correct infomation. How do i get that stuff off my ipod and into itunes???
