So I just sold an iPad pro 12.9 in preparation for these new ones being released. I'm a bit disappointed missing out on the mini-LED but if my use case necessitates the 11 so be it.

I always found the 12.9 (3rd gen) to be so bulky. I intended it to be a replacement for all sorts of paper and kind of a central way to organise fitness videos, any to-do stuff, mail etc etc. Particularly as I've opted for the 12 mini as phone. However it never quite worked by itself and it was game changed when adding a keyboard so it got a logitech "slim" (not so slim really) folio added. And then it turned out to be even more massive (and probably heavy) than my 13" MacBook.

SO - I figure I'll get an 11. And then add it into the combo touch from logitech for a case so then it's got best of both world - keyboard for when needed, no keyboard at all when wanting to write on it portrait mode.

Anyone reckon that I'll regret not getting the 12.9? I intend to use it like a notebook and I will only write in portrait - hate writing in landscape. Any reason the mini-LED would be that game-changing for such boring use case? I'll be getting the 14" MacBook Pro when it's released. I wonder if having 11 as an additional screen on the go rather than 12.9 will be an issue? The new case would presumably still be massive on a 12.9 even though you could now take the keyboard off?

(One thing that REALLY bugged me is that when stacked together, the 12.9 was noticeably bigger than the MacBook...so awkward to carry, hopefully 14" would fix that issue as it'll be slightly bigger).

Also, in terms of storage, is base 128gb enough or will I be crying come WWDC that I didn't get 256gb?

I always go insane when trying to use my iPad Pro in portrait mode. I find it to be too big for that purpose.

For your tasks any iPad will suffice hence I’d focus solely on getting the right size screen that feels comfortable to you.

Personally I wouldn’t pick a 128 GB device anymore but your previous experience is the best guidance here for your own needs.

I have heard this a lot. Perhaps this means the 11 definitely is a good choice since I almost always use portrait mode. I figure if a4 size needed it can be flipped over to landscape - otherwise should be kinda a5 size.

You know, I was really tempted to just get the iPad Air but 64gb base is way too small. By the time you upgrade to 256gb (which seems only option), may as well have gotten the pro it seems. I prefer face ID so that has sealed it a bit as well.

Don’t blame the tool.

Kidding aside that’s really personal preference. If you have sufficient space on the table portrait can work as well.

Pulled the trigger on the 256gb 11. Hopefully it works out...logitech keyboard price seems well high, tempting to just cash in for magic keyboard but then would want to put something stupid like the cover buddy on it.

For a second screen, hopefully it can at least display an extra terminal window or two.
