Critique for my portfolio please?

Hey.
Ive just spend a good few hours re-doing my portfolio website. Im pretty happy with the outcome. Please tell me what you think?

Also, I have some updated pieces of work in the portfolio... feel free to crit them also.

I'm not qualified to judge, but i can tell you that I had mistaken that thing under LATEST WORK to be a giant advertisement . How I did that, I don't know.

Its actually not a advertisement at all... well its not ment to be. I am promoting my graphic design skills not the companies that I work for.

looks pretty good to me. the process to get to your portfolio is a bit awkward though. i read PORTFOLIO -> then read that i should click the picture of the portfolio -> then clicked the portfolio icon. i would suggest simplifying that somehow

Totally agree- it looks like you've rented out that large space for advertising. At the least tone down that logo, even if you did create it - showcase it once someone decides to click on the new work link. In fact, rather than using that at all.. just include direct links to the latest 3 or 4 projects from your portfolio site- all the while, making it easy to find the rest of the projects. I would also make it easy for one to find your CV and contact info while looking at the projects. No reason they should have to go back to the first page.

Scanned through your website, it looks good, especially your business cards. I have to agree with the others under the latest work, it does look like an ad.

Also, you might want to tone down your resume. Here in Canada, we have a 1 page resume to highlight work/education/accomplishments. No one is going to read through 4 pages worth of text and no one is going to care if you passed or what grade you got in each subject. Search in google for resumes.

edit, I noticed your link to your resume, you have the link as http://www.jminnsmedia.co.uk/J.Minns_Media/Home_files/CV_V4.pdf, do not use period (.) use only lower caps and underscore.

your work is too busy -- reminds me of craigslists ads where you can get business card design + printing 1,000 cards for 25.00. keep it simple...

From experience, I'd only highlight your best work not just all the work you've ever done. Something like the Halloween poster looked out of place and wasn't as polished.

If I'm looking through work, I go to the first few that catch my eye to decide if I'm going to pursue the rest. Generally I don't have enough time to review all of them before making my mind up and moving to the next person.

Not bad...But overall, too busy. Too much copy (too much text) - especially on the business cards. Try to tone down the copy on everything.

My favorite portfolio piece (out of all pieces) is the "LA 2008". I love it, then (again) all of the copy started to really bug me All of the small text under the headline strayed off way too far to the left. I would love to place this work on my wall if it were more balanced. It would just FEEL nicer to look at - maybe even to the point where I would actually read it. I would justify the small text (on the bottom) by left aligning it to the headline. If it were done that way, it would be a proud art piece I would display.

Again, overall, not bad. But the little things, did bother me a lot.

Oh...Also, the "portfolio" text looks too "cookie cutter" on the red notebook. Maybe remove the bevel. A simple font will read much nicer.
