Hi,

I would love some feedback and advise on my new website, www.macmad.net. It is in it's infancy and was really a bit of fun to learn WordPress. let me know what you think!
 
The nav is pretty cool and you have one of the most origional wordpress themes I've seen, even if it does resemble OSX - if you know what I mean?

Get some more mac hacks on there - I always like trying to break my mac!
 
oh wow, another mac related website that's simply reposting the same news I come onto MacRumors to read, that's what the world needs. Hats off to you my friend! You've clearly seen there was a void of generic apple news websites and filled it.

Yeah I know, but hey! It's a bit of fun for me and I learned wordpress in the process. I'm just picking and choosing the best stuff I come across. The site is 5 days old. As a twice ex-apple employee ( Cork and Sydney ) I have plenty of original stuff to go online as soon as I have enough free time to do it. And then you may see my content on some other sites. And that's cool by me.

Yeah it's also a theme readily available on the net with a few more plugins for WP. It was exactly the look I wanted.....
 
Do you want me to critique your site? Your content? Your design?

AFAICT this is another theme/template website.

just what kind of feedback do you want then!?

Apparently we're critiquing that he did the 5 minute install of wordpress? Then spent another 5 minutes filling out the "about" section and adding some content?

So yes, to the OP, good work on your 10 minutes of work with wordpress. I look forward to more riveting work from you including "I turned on my Mac all by myself" "look at picture I drawed" and "I made a poop in the potty" :rolleyes:

Actually I managed a poop in the toilet today and wiped my own bum all by myself. Pretty cool eh?

Such arrogance. I'm sure you were able to write actionscript and CSS templates from day one. I may have been a little premature in posting this thread but never expected such vitriol. Thanks guys...
 
Why do people bother asking to be critiqued when IT ISN'T EVEN THEIR OWN WORK.... Templates and themes don't count for serious assesments of what they consider to be their own web site.....

Well then who ever made the template in the first place did a nice job :D

jdoyle learn to use Dreamweaver or iWeb then I'll do a serious critique.

I think the point here is that you have asked for a critique of your site which to would lead me (and many others) to believe that this site is your work. But as we all know now, this isn't the case, it's a template, it's wordpress, it ain't that impressive, sorry. Perhaps a better question for the forum would have been 'Do you think this is a good template for my new site', or 'What do you think of the content on my new site'.

I'm pleased for you that you've started to have a play around with Wordpress, it's a great blogging tool and has huge potential for creating your own custom sites which I'm sure we'd all be very happy to comment on once you start down that road. For now though, you can't really be asking for a critique of something that you've really not created (i.e. designed) yourself. :)

No one is here to stifle creativity.

but you cant argue that this particular site, lacks it.

many here seem to be frustrated with the constant "check out my sites" only to find its a template/theme.

its understood if you are asking for an all around critique, that you did the whole website without that kind of help.

be more upfront, and people will always be kind.

;)
 
This is the second bitter thread I've read in this forum. Seriously people hear need some fresh air or something.

I think critique in general encompasses design and content. So if he uses a theme, then it's content by default, no? I have to agree, the content is well stock and already on macrumors.

Since I'm annoyed at all the hostility and negativity I'm encountering in this forum, I recommend that some admin create some rules for website reviews, including
- name of site
- URL
- theme or original design?
- content review yes/no?
- extra (for the banal people complaining about google ads)
 
People come on give him a break! He is just having some fun making a website for himself and learning a bit in the process, he is not makin a website for a multimillion dollar company on his first try! It may not be his creation but hey, everybody starts somewhere. Give people some time for god sakes, eventually everybody learns and then we may actually see some of his work. But for now, he at least needs a start somewhere!
