I have a MBP 2.33 and was wondering if i could play counterstrike source and half life 2 with out lag or would bootcamp be better. I would not like to install bootcamp but if cross over suck with that game than.

Very little outside of Internet Explorer works with CrossOver. Bootcamp does everything and does it fast.
Virtualization has not come far enough to support high end 3d games. HL2 and CS will not run well, if at all. Your 3 year old PC would run it faster than one through virtualization.
DirectX 8 is the highest I know (VMWare), and even that is experimental. Someone chime in too if they've done better than DX8.
A true windows install through bootcamp would be much better for gaming purposes, and is the only way to run games at their full potential on an Intel Mac.
Just install windows with bootcamp.

Quite wrong actually. I used to play CS Source and DOD Source, and CS 1.6 on a 1.83 core duo macbook pro, with 512 ram. It ran great, A little extra ram would have helped. I would still go with BootCamp anyway.
I used CrossOver 6.0 for Linux to play CS 1.6. It worked decently... but it wasn't as good of quality as a native Windows install. But just on Tuesday they released 6.1 whiched supposedly improved 3D game performance.
My suggestion is to download their 30 day free trial and test it out. If you like it, buy it... if you don't like it... go bootcamp.

Crossover is ok, but I'd still prefer Boot Camp since it's faster. Parallels also if there's nothing demanding.
So I just finished installing steam and css and now installing hl2. Css works really well. full resolution with everything turned up and installed directx 9 with out a hair of slowdown. its amazing.
You are playing this through crossover for Mac OS X?!?!
