Crossover Performance

Over the past year of owning an iMac, I have been quite happy with the games that I have available to play on the OSX: TF2, Portal, WoW, SC2. While these games are great for me, I am kind of looking into the future and there are a few games that will be running on Windows only, such as Guild Wars 2.

I know about BootCamp and that is the most fool proof option, but I was skeptical about the WINE usage in CrossOver. I would like to stay in OSX as much as possible and this would allow me to still be actively connected to my email and other OSX applications while running a game.

My question is, for those that have been using CrossOver, what has the performance been like for more recent games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3? I expect the performance gets better and better as bugs get fixed, but what are people actively achieving for FPS on what equipment?

I see CrossOver has compatibility charts but there aren't really any feedback as to the FPS or latency. I hope to resolve my decision before I partition and purchase a Windows version.

Wine performance will vary from game to game... one game can run like 90 to 95% as good, then the next, which may even have lower system requirements will run like 50% as good... you never know. You have to take it on a game by game basis...

I've been using CrossOver Games for over a year for the convenience. Not interested in swapping between Bootcamp and native, partitioning HD, buying additional Win licenses (my only Win licence is in a VM), don't mine cranking down the res if needed.

On a 2009 i7, I play MW2 and Black Ops with good performance in mid to hi-res settings. MW3 is pushing the limits, but with low-res settings I've been playing it just fine.

In general, I recommend it. For the casual gamer like myself, it works great and fits the bill for convenience. If your more concerned for max performance, you'd be bettter off with Bootcamp.
