Hey. I just wanted feedback before I dove in and made a RAM purchase.

Apple RAM is quite overpriced, so I was eyeing a Crucial 1 gb chip so I could max my computer out at 2gb. I always had great luck with Crucial when I had a Dell desktop oh so many years ago, but I didn't know how it functioned in the Mac, and especially, the MBP.

I just was hoping someone here would have some feedback. Thanks!

If you have one gig now, I believe MBPs come with both slots filled. So for you, you'll have 2x 512 MB of RAM. So you'll have to get 2x 1 GB of RAM and not just one stick of 1 GB of RAM.

The Flashing Fi is right. PIn addition, you'll want matched pairs- you could just replace one of your sticks and run 1.5 GB of ram, but you wouldn't have any advantage in doing so.

The good news is that I just bought ram for my wife's MB, and noticed that prices are really quite low these days.
And, yes, I bought from crucial- best prices and the best quality. Good choice.

I appreciate the feedback. Order purchased. I about wet my pants when I saw I could get a 1 gb chip for $30 right now when Apple sells them for $150. Talk about a price difference!

My computer is a stock 2.16 GHz MBP Core Duo that came with a 1 gb chip in one of the slots--the other is empty. I've always assumed I've been taking some performance penalty for not having matched pairs. But seeing the price at Crucial, I couldn't afford not to pick up on it since my MBP will likely be my computer until Mac OS X 10.6.
