Hi guys,

Newbie here. I am considering upgrading the ram for my late 2015 i7 iMac. Could someone please let me know if there is a difference between the two sets of ram? If there is, could you please give me a little more information and which one to go for.

The model numbers are CT7916286 and BLS2C8G3N18AES4CEU. I am also aware that Hyper X produce HX318LS11IBK2/16 but I have never heard about the company and most people advise crucial, so a little skeptical.

Opinions please for which would be best for me.

Many thanks!

Could you please post the specs for the different memories here, that would make it easier for us to vote rather than having to google three different partnumbers to be able to vote

As far as I'm aware, they all have the same specs, but a difference in price, which is why i'm a little confused. No point in posting specs if they are all the same.

Well no, they aren't the same spec. The CT7916286 one has CL13 for one, the HX318LS11IBK2/16 has CL11 and BLS2C8G3N18AES4CEU has CL10.

I'd go with either HyperX or BLS2, the lower the CL the faster the ram will be, I'd go with the fastest possible even if i couldn't feel a difference in day-to-day-usage.

Personally I'd go for 2133MHz Memory as the retina iMac Will support it and run it at that speed (giving a nice 5-10% increase in RAM performance), like HX321LS11IB2K2_16

5-10%? Most people say ram speed is very minimal on performance.

On overall computer performance yes, notice I said "ram performance" ;)
Ram performance won't generally affect things other than ram intensive tasks (if you don't do those kinds of things, don't bother, games generally isn't memory intensive in that kind of way).
Price difference between 1866 vs 2133 really isn't much today, I'd go for the fastest I could get within a few percent difference in price (1866 cl10 or 2133 cl11 should be about the same)

Fallout 4 to take an example benefits greatly from faster Rams, I'd venture a guess and say virtualized environments also benefit from more memory bandwidth
