I'm buying a Mac Pro in the next few weeks and I was looking on Crucial UK's website, I was having a bit of trouble locating the Mac Pro so I ended up looking at Xserve RAM first, which is also FB-DIMM/PC-5300.

Get a load of this: Mac Pro Page vs Xserve. On 2x1GB for a more mac-pro like heat spreader, and no other difference (keep in mind the Xserve ones still have a heatsink) they're charging an extra £70(About$140US)!

Any reason not to go with the otherwise identical XServe DIMMS? On a side note, where is the best place to buy Mac Pro RAM in the UK?

Yeah crucial are almost as expensive as Apple/

Not in the UK, but Omni Technologies do 2 x 1gb for $399 (£200) and they charge $25 (12.50) for delivery. But they always put a lesser amount on the declare docs so you NEVER get charged customs, and its delivered in about 2-3 days. I've used them 4 times now and have been impressed by them, and never had faulty ram.

Crucial used to be quite cheap but I think they jumped on the bandwagon that is the MacPro and realised they could ramp up the price. I wont be buying from them anymore.

I read somewhere they have dynamic pricing too. So the price depends on how and what you have viewed on their site. Not sure how it works its just something I briefly read. To get the cheapest price you have to erase any crucial cookies from your browser and go directly to the product you want or something. Maybe someone else can explain it better?

Those are not the same heat spreaders. Click the links, you'll see that not even the pictures are the same (Mac Pro RAM has the large sinkers and the Xserve one pictures don't).

Still, huge diff for just that...
