when i connect my mini dvi connector to my 12" powerbook, there is this crunch/clink type sound when it is in, is this normal?

i'm assuming it's part of a secure latching mechanism of some sort.

Standard sound for 12PBs. Be thankful it's not the sound it makes when you back over it in your vehicle...

Yeah, I just heard that on mine last week. Freaked me out, so of course I unplugged it and tried again and sure enough crunchity crunch again. Glad to hear it's not just mine.

It is without a doubt one of the most HORRIBLE noises you would want to hear coming from none other than your precious powerbook!
Yeh, i hear it too.
First time i did it, i thought the pins had snapped,
Second time i did again...

actually, its a fear i still go through to this day every crunch clicking time...
