iPhone X Crying Wolf

I've seen so many posts here about how the iPhone X scratches too easily and somehow it is different from previous models in durability. But after using my iPhone X for almost 2 months, I am calling BS on all of those threads.

No, the glass is not softer, and no, it does not scratch more easily. I have been using the X just like all of my previous iPhones. No case, no screen protector. And guess what? Just like before, I have no blemishes.

If you drop it, will it break? Possibly, just like any other physical object made of physical materials like glass and metal. But is the iPhone X more scratch prone or breakable than previous iPhones or other phones? The answer is no. I have not babied my X, and it is absolutely fine.

Not to worry, happens when ever a new phone is introduced. People who have never damaged their phone can not believe that they have only had the X for a day and it is scratched.

For every thread about how it is softer, scratches easier, etc., there is a counter thread about how you don't need screen protectors, its hard, its durable, etc.

Long story short. Everyone's use is different and whether or not an individuals phone scratches or not, is probably more a reflection on care and use than on manufacture and material

iPhones usually come down to how the owner handles it and what type of protection they use. I don't use any protection on any of my iPhones, and I can tell you they are almost flawless from what I can see.

And for those complaining about the stainless bands on the iPhone X, in general will scratch because that's the type of material that it is, Whoch it's almost I'm possible to keep it entirely imperfection free, even with the use of cases can cause it to scratch lately.

I personally hate the shiny stainless steel as it looks like a bauble designed to sit on a shelf. I would much prefer a brushed or matte finish which I also think would hold up better.

But I don’t hate my decision. On the contrary, I returned the iPhone X. I don’t “hate the device”. It’s a device. And one not just that I won’t pay for, but one I don’t even want. I’m not alone in that. And I think that is problematic for Apple.

Apple’s obsession with things like polished stainless steel in devices that take lots of abuse, and precious UX over usability will, if they let it continue, drive me away. And I’ve been an Apple user for a looooooong time. Still gotta Apple II up on the shelf.

Fair enough point well made. I guess we are all different. I like stainless steel and I think the usage “scratches” that come with that material give it character. It does on my watch, and it does in our kitchen. Looks lovely when cleaned up but also works well when it gets dirty.

I was visiting my local car dealer to get something checked on my car today. I went to put my X in my breast pocket and it fell about 5 feet to the concrete. It had an Anker karapax case on it, and holy **** it survived the fall, no scratches, and a tiny scratch on the case which I am very surprised about (figured it would have a ton of scratches).

From now on, I will be much more careful, but the case surely saved it. Now, I am more accepting of a case since the screen is almost edge to edge and the X is smaller than my 6+. Plus, the case is a nice smoke matte which is what I hoped we would have got vs. shiny and scratch prone stainless steel and clear glass.
