So browsing through the new apps this morning as I usually do, I was very happily surprised to see that a Final Fantasy-based Tower Defense game from Square Enix had been released- and better yet, there was a free trial version of it (http://appshopper.com/games/crystal-defenders-lite). Once I could get to a WiFi connection (thanks again for not letting us download apps over 10MB over 3G, /ATT!) I snagged it and played through it over lunch.
Unfortunately, I was sorely underwhelmed. With the kind of talent Square has I was expecting MUCH more- not what's obviously an almost direct port of a game originally coded for more 'standard' cell phones. In theory, I think the game works very well- unfortunately after playing Fieldrunners and Tap Defense and knowing that this isn't some small developer, the implementation just really leaves a bad taste in my mouth- that they're charging more than Fieldrunners and 7 Cities (which has been tempting me for a while) for it just makes it all the worse.
