CS4 Photoshop help

So i just bought CS4 with my new MBP and im having some trouble.
Im trying to draw a few shapes but everytime i draw them there not showing up on layers but in "paths" when there in this i cant transform or move them 1 by 1. How can I make it so i can copy and paste a shape and rotate it individually?

You would have to create a new layer for each shape. Photoshop isn't like Illustrator or InDesign where you can drag/pull shapes around.

ya, thats the thing it wouldnt put the shapes on layers so creating a new ;ayer didnt do anything. I think it was a glitch or something because i tried it today and it worked haha.
