Well its been a few months with CS5 released.
How's everybody's take on the upgrade?
Reason I'm asking is that I have to upgrade this year (budget) and wonder if I should go full blast (12k total cost) or piece by piece.
We have mixed licenses of bundles here for both Mac and Windows.
If there is a thread on this, sorry I couldnt find one (because there are tons).
Any thoughts would be helpful :)

Edit: forgot to add that we use Adobe for mostly Motion Design and Graphics. Not so much for Web and Video.

I have upgraded to CS5 design standard and for me it was well worth it. I already used puppet wrap and content aware fill in Photoshop quite often, previously something like this was considerably more effort, sometimes simply not worth it. InDesign got the best improvements in my opinion, different page sizes within one document make my workflow much easier and pdf export in the background thanks to multicore support often saves precious time. It also seems that InDesign CS5 is actually faster than CS3 or 4 on my machine - maybe also thanks to multicore support.

If you are doing illustrations or photo editing with a tablet the new brushes in Photoshop and Illustrator, that change like a real brush when you turn the wacom pen are great too, so is the mixer brush, that lets you paint like you have real, wet media on the screen.

These are the things that made the upgrade worth it for me, I don't know your needs or if these things are worth it for someone else, but I'm certainly happy that I have them.

The custom class introspection in Flash CS5 actions panel is very nice.
InDesign CS5 "span columns" paragraph style option is extremely useful.

Does anyone have experience running this next to CS3? How easy is opening and back-saving?

As expected, CS3 documents open just fine without any problems in CS5.

Photoshop CS5 files will open in CS3, Illsutrator CS5 files will have to be back-saved, obviously CS4/5 specific effects will disappear or transform into something not really editable during that process.

With InDesign it's tricky. CS5 no longer exports .inx files, only .idml files for legacy export. Sadly, these .idml files can only be opened in CS4, not CS3.

Hope this helps.

I upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and I am loving it.

Granted, I'm no longer the photoshop jockey that I used to be but I still use it fairly often.

CS5 is a lot faster then CS3 and from my experience, MUCH more stable.

I can now create a psd network from Maya 2011 to Photoshop CS5. It would not work with CS3 for who knows what reason. I can also link it with Unity as well with no problems.

Content aware fill is a HUGE time saver. Some people expect too much from it but it does a great job at getting you close, and then letting you manually touch up an area. I haven't had the need to play with puppet warp but it looks super useful.

I ran into issues with the momentum scrolling with the magic mouse...unfortunately, I'm not willing to give up the speed/ease of use from that feature, so I ended up not upgrading.

Also, an essential plugin for work (I use on every photo, so like 4 to 6 times an hour, all day) doesn't work in 64bit.

Needless to say, not being able to use all these new features (and allocating all of my 8gb of RAM) is making me a sad panda :(

That's interesting and useful to know, I've always found CS3 (Photoshop only) to be very buggy.

Nik by any chance? I'm in the same boat with the Aperture version of the plugin - very frustrating.

Cs5 Resizing Pic Boxes With Command Option Click So The Box Resizes From One Edge

Hi
Is there a preference change I can make so when I resize my pic box with command option click, it resizes from the edge not the centre. Seems to have defaulted to this in CS5?

Just ordered Photoshop CS5. Cant wait for it to get here.
Back ordered in my school store :(
They said it should be in Friday tho..
