Hi everyone,

Does anybody know if there is a different in the amount of problems (noisy HDD, yellow issue, gray band, dust of fingerprints on screen) on BTO or CTO (Built-To-Order and Configured-To-Order) Mac's.

I am getting a CTO and hope that everything is OK:D

BTO and CTO refer to the same thing. You configure your Mac, and Apple builds it for you. Apple also uses "customize" interchangeably with "configure". Are you referring to standard retail configurations vs built?

Thanks for your reply. I do refer to retail vs built.

Might wanna edit poll. you have:

BTO all is fine
BTO with problems
CTO all is fine
BTO with probelms

3 BTO options
1 CTO Option

Pretty sure you meant to have last one as CTO.

Note: Didn't catch this but spellchecker did on copy and paste, last problems spelled wrong.

This.

I can't tell which to choose on your poll. Maybe change it to "stock/retail" and "BTO" (or CTO, which really is the same thing as BTO).

Went through 3 stock -inshore 2009 27" before giving up.

My 4th 2010 27" (all custom order) was perfect.

It's a crapshoot either way.

I was on the fence about getting the i5 3.6GhZ cpu to the 21.5" iMac. Then somebody suggested that a BTO-iMac could have a higher probability of having no problems than a "from the shelf" iMac. I went with the BTO and eventhough this iMac has the Seagate HDD it is almost totally problem-free: no dust, no noise, no dead pixels, no backlight bleeding etc. It does have a mild yellow tint problem but this is very acceptable (since I'm not even a photographer).

So I'm happy. This is the best computer I've ever owned.
