Cupertino, we have a problem......(or do we?)

So, I finally got my new iMac. A 24" 2.4ghz stock model. I was really hoping I wouldn't get stuck with the dreaded "gradiant issue" that so many have reported, and was pretty happy with the fact that I hadn't seen it in person on any 24" iMac at any of the stores (and I have been to a lot of them).

So I opened it up, fired it up and immediately at the light gray screen with the Apple logo, I noticed a slight tint at about the middle of the screen, coming from the right side and extending to around the middle.

Now, it is only noticeable (so far) on solid color backgrounds. I will never use a solid color background, but the fact that it's "there" still kinda bugs me. If I switch to a "nature" background or something else, I don't notice it. It is slightly noticeable in iCal and Safari. Also, when I went into Front Row, I noticed backlight bleeding in all four corners of the screen.

What I want to know is this - is this "common" in the 24" models? If I had the yellow tint problem I would be at the Apple store first thing in the morning. But for the problems I'm seeing I'm wondering if it's worth exchanging.

Any opinions would be appreciated...

I have 20inch Alu iMac

Yes my panel being a cheaper TN flat panel which Apple chose to use has the top the bottom gradient issue. Also I have have never seen a display be it flat or CRT with which I cannnot find an issue.

I set the calibration on my iMac and in normal usage and do not notice the gradient issue.

Other people use my Mac and dont even see it. It is one of those things that if you show somebody they will see.

If Apple had sent the machines out setup up a tad better most people would not have noticed the issue with the cheap TN panels.

I never ever sit and look at my iMac with a flat colour background, nor do I hold my head at strange angles when using my Mac, as I have read some have done to see problems with the screen.

Signatus, buy your Mac set it up correctly and enjoy, oh and do not go looking for problems or you will find some

One last thing, my screen gets better as it warms through.

Yes the factory screen calibration sucks, and the setting at which the contrast is set makes things seem a bit washed out.

Even if you do not calibrate the thing, just tapping the increase contrast button once or twice generally makes things a bit better.

I decided to pack it up and bring it back tonight.....I'll see what the "Geniuses" think but even after playing around with the settings and letting it warm up for a couple hours, it was still very evident. If I get another one tonight with the same issue I'll more than likely just deal with it.
