Curious about how to set up OS X for my 5yr old

I am almost certain that Santa is bringing my five year old son a refurbed eMac for Christmas . I have only switched myself about a year ago and still have a very limited knowledge of how to use some of the specific user settings.

When you have your primary account all set up, then
open your system preferences to Accounts and add
your childs account with any desired parental restrictions.

Then be prepared to watch your child surpass all your computer knowledge
in about 6 months.

Or less than 6 months. Just be mindful, putting some restrictions on a Childs account can be very frustrating, installations require Admins password etc. But at 5 that shouldn't be much of a problem

You can get yourself a trial .Mac account. They have a ton of movies and tutorials to learn about setting up users as well as may other topics.

Your youngster will love having their own account on your computer.
My now 4 year old daughter had her own account at the tender age of one, and now navigates log-in, safari, tabs, bookmarks, edutainment s/w with ease. This is basically my account setup for her- Simple finder, allow Safari, QT, Rplayer, WMP and Acrobat. Add more relevant apps as they show interest in learning more. Oh and dont forget to change Google prefs to child friendly ones.

Theres stacks of amazing FREE web content out there for most ages so 99% of the time there shouldnt be any need for your admin password.
