Hi all!

I just came across a little problem that I thought, I might share, in case someone encounters the same problem.

Automatic Head Detection in my left earcup suddenly stopped working.
When I lifted it, the music just kept playing, Automatic Head Detection on the right earcup was fine.

I had already initated an exchange (I can only do it until tomorrow, 8th of January, so I panicked a bit), when something suddenly occurred to me.

You can actually insert the removable Ear Cushions the wrong way - upside down!

Yesterday, when I was checking for condensation in my AirPods Max due to what people wrote in the other thread, I removed the Ear Cushions. Obviously, I reinserted the left Ear Cushion "updside down", think of the big "L" inside the ear cushion oriented upside down. The Ear Cushion perfectly snaps into place, there is no indication that anything is wrong. But obviously the sensor that detects, whether the earcup is on your ear or not, is blocked and not working anymore. If you look at the inside of the Ear Cushions, there is a cut-out for the sensor. It is facing the wrong way, when you orient them upside down. Subsequently, Automatic Head Detection does not work anymore. Reversing the orientating fixes the problem asap.

This is really curious, they could have made a cut-out on both sides, but obviously they did not assume anyone would insert the Ear Cushions in the wrong orientation. I think it can happen easily, because they fit perfectly and there is no indication whatsoever that something is amiss. Since the "L" and the "R" are pretty subtle (black on black in my case) the wrong orientation of the letters is not easily appreciated as well.
Of course, my own bad, but I am glad, I got it sorted out instead of waiting for weeks on end for my replacement for what are perfectly fine headphones!

In case anyone is coming across the same problem - first check the correct orientation of the Ear Cushions!
