Subject: Curious to know the MP7,1 boot times with ever increasing RAM sizes

When the system boots it will, as part of its work, perform a memory test and indicate PASS/OK in the System Information -> Memory section of the Hardware list.

Obviously, the more RAM in the Mac, the longer it will take for the memory test to do its work.

Our MP7,1 will have 384GB RAM (12x 32GB R-DIMMs).

What are people seeing as their boot times when having large RAM configured. It would be useful when you post to state your MP7,1's RAM size and DIMM size distribution (such as my 12 slots populated with 12x 32GB for example) for me. Thanks... :)

If 384GB of RAM took 1 second longer to boot than 64GB, would that change anyone's mind one way or another?

I have 12 x 32GB RAM modules for a total of 384GB of RAM. I have Windows 10 installed using Bootcamp. Both of the times below are from them moment I press the power button until I get the log in screen.

Windows 10: 40 seconds
MacOS: 27 seconds

Is the boot up time related at all to the number of applications assigned to open at startup?

This is often the cause of "Windows just gets slower and slower" complaints. People will keep installing apps that have startup scripts, and wonder why after a couple of years the system is slow to boot,.

Then it might be difficult to partition out that variable vs RAM volume across computers.

My Windows Dell laptop at work takes four minutes to fully boot. Dual core. It's freaking ridiculous

Does it run a corporate Win10 image, or a clean install?

My laptops with clean installs from the MSDN kits boot much faster than the official IT-supported image.

Blame your IT department, not Microsoft.

(And why are you running a dual core system in 2020?)
