I thought it might be interesting to hear what others think is wrong with the current implementation of aTV. I'm not talking about missing features, codecs, laser transponders, GPS, automatic parking or anything of the like. If it isn't already in the box, don't list it here.

Here's a few of mine:
1. If you're syncing with a specific library, that library's contents should be available in the aTV menus. I shouldn't have to change sources to view a menu of non-synced content if the aTV is set up to sync.

2. You can't change the screensaver except globally. It would be nice to have a different screensaver for music, for system timeout, for podcasts, etc.

3. Your turn...

i'd love to be able to consecutively play music videos, as well as have a shuffle feature at the top, just like music. sometimes i'd just like to have some video noise/ambience on in the background, and instead i have to manually play each individual one. wouldnt it be cool to have your appletv play music videos in the background? i tried making a playlist, but that didnt work.

The difference: Enhance Existing Functionality

Missing features are not expected features. For example, when I bought this product, I never assumed it would have a DVD player included in it, nor did I expect it to do 1080p. Saying, for example, "I want my apple tv make toast" is not the same thing as, "since it's providing (some feature), why don't they let me change/customize it? Why didn't they finish it?"

I look at the feature set and think it's incomplete -- skeletal. It's a nice Beta.

If you've ever been looking at something on the screen and said to yourself, "It sure would work better for me if I could modify the setting on this feature," or "It would be nice if there were some kind of sorting feature," then you get the idea. I thought it might be a good idea to get together a list of easily-fixed enhancements, send them off to Apple, and see what, if anything, they might do. Enhancements are more likely to arrive.

Actually, with as hot as I've heard the thing gets, are you sure it doesn't already make toast? :)
