The only difference I see is lower processor speed in last generation and less shared video ram...

Is there any other difference? Thanks

Larger hard drive and more RAM in the base 2.26GHz model than the previous base model.

Aside from the slight differences in hard drive capacity and processor speed, the only other difference that I have come across is that the current mac mini can boot from the external superdrive that was introduced for the macbook air.

I sold my 2008 mac mini core 2 duo (DVI) and bought the current low end model and noticed a big difference in usability. Both minis had 7200 rpm drives, but the current one feels much faster. Maybe the graphics card plays a big role in Snow Leopard? Eventually, I will swap the hard drive for an SSD.

I'd expect a reasonable jump in performance between your 2008 model (presumably the mid 2007 version) and the latest one, not least because the earlier model uses 667 MHz DDR2 memory whereas the new one uses 1066 MHz DDR3 memory with a frontside bus to match.

Nice. I am actually waiting on mine right now. Fedex is supposed to be here any minute with mine. It's on today's truck though! Also have a 7200 Scorpio black and Apple wireless keyboard. Just waiting for it! =) I'm stoked. Also the fact that the little fireballs can accept and use 8 gigs of ram now.
INSANE.
haha
I do some heavy Photoshop work. Might pick up the 8 gigs of ram in a week.

upgradeability

I know that the new ones' CPUS are soldered on the mobo, the previous ones were socketed.

The previous Mini and the current Mini both have DDR3. Also, ALL Minis come with 5400 rpm hard drives... So the only difference I can tell is the speed of the processor and more shared video ram... Oh, and hard drive space.

Anyone know of ANY other differences?

Any 2009 mini with at least 2 GB of RAM will have 256 MB shared video RAM. So the early 2009 mini would have the same video RAM as long as you upgraded it from its base 1 GB RAM.

Ok, so besides the differences I mentioned a few posts above, there's no other differences? Thanks

"heavy?" Can you define "heavy?"

Sorry, but you should have bought the 21" iMac instead.

$600 stock 2.26 mini + $100 drive + $70 keyboard + $70 mouse = $850
You want 8 gigs ram? Be prepared to part with another $450 of your cash.

Base 21" iMac gives you 3.06 C2D right off the bat. Already has 500 gig drive. Already has wireless keyboard. Already has Magic Mouse. Already has 4 gigs ram. Oh, and a high end 21" monitor.

All for $1050. http://www.macconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=10682017

You want to go to 8 gigs in an iMac? Sure, $100 more. Not $450, $350 or $250, just $100.

So $1150 gets you 800 mhz faster, 8 gigs ram and a 21" screen. Want to keep using your Acer as a second screen? Easy. $11. http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5106&seq=1&format=2

Kind of a thread hijack, sorry, but just needed to point out the facts...

Thaaaat's gotta hurt.

But few people want to edit photos on a glossy-screened iMac.

If few = a lot, then we agree.

Have you even looked at a glossy screen iMac or MBP outside of the Apple store?

As a person that has glossy iMacs next to nice matte S-IPS panels, I can tell you that the gloss is just fine.

I stare at a 24" AL iMac all day and night (and have for a couple of years now) and you forget about the gloss in about 5 seconds...

You can get a good keyboard and mouse for much less than $140, but even then it only makes the cash outlays about equal and the iMac is still a more powerful and more easily (and cheaply) memory upgradeable machine.

I have a glossy MBP and I hate its display. I only like to use it after dark. During the day, there are too many reflections, everywhere.

I wish there was a separate forum here for Mac mini topics. The iMac fans always seem to interject their opinions in the mini threads.

Dont misundstand -- I think the mini is awesome, but $100 too much to start with.

I liked them a lot better when they first came out at $499 -- and Im sure Apple could easily drop them $100 and still be OK.

Problem with Jasons little scenario is that he just bought a mini that cost more than an iMac with less power.

Fair enough on the MBP glossy screen, as a portable dealing with light is a *much* bigger issue than dealing with a stationary desktop iMac.

Have you seen this, theres a fairly big thread on MRF on this, maybe a quick search would find it: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/653313-REG/Moshi_99MO020902_iVisor_AG_Anti_Glare_Screen.html
