Hey.

The only thing I use most with MobileMe is my @me.com email address.

I know we can't merge our iTunes ID and MobileMe ID for iCloud.

Is there a way I could delete my MobileMe account, freeing up my @me.com email aaddress. Then make my iTunes ID my iCloud ID and add my @me.com email address back again?

Thanks!

you can cancel you MM account, not sure if the same name would be available again or how long it takes to free up, but it sounds risky

why would you want to delete it then re add it again?

Because I don't want have to use iCloud for everything except for iTunes content and an iTunes ID for iTunes conntent.

If I can make my iTunes ID my iCloud ID and then re-add my @me.com email address to that it make it all under one account.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat...I have two AppleID's: Gmail AppleID for iTunes, and MobileMe AppleID for Contacts, Calendar & Find My iPhone (which they made free just weeks after I signed up for MobileMe).

I can only assume I made a mistake when I signed up for MobileMe...instead of adding MobileMe features to my iTunes AppleID, I created a whole second AppleID. :(

Apple's page states you can't 'merge' AppleIDs. But, it sounds like I'll be able to keep using my iTunes AppleID, and that will work with iTunes in the Cloud. So worst case, I suppose I'll just keep both AppleIDs, as functionally nothing should change once iCloud launches.

It's just kinda dumb to have two AppleIDs. I'm hoping (grasping at straws) that when iCloud launches, I'll be SURE use my iTunes AppleID to do any iCloud signup...if that works, then I'll cancel my MobileMe account (or watch it die, whatever's easiest).

I don't care about the actual @me.com address, if it has to change, so be it. I doubt cancelling the account in hopes of 'freeing up' the same address only to then re-create on an iCloud account would work...pretty safe to assume you can't use the same address as one that's been cancelled.

Maybe if Apple had simply renamed the iTunes AppleIDs to "iTunes ID" or called the new ones "iCloud ID".

Your contacts, calendar, email etc. can be moved over to iCloud when its launched. And if you signed up for iCloud with your iTunes Apple ID you'll continue to use that.
