The SSD in my MBP died (I’m assuming as it’s been having an issue of crashing and rebooting to a question mark folder and fine after a restart - but now is 10p% stuck on the question mark folder after reboots).

Looking to get a new SSD, but wondering what the current recommendations are. I do see some drives being sold (one by OWC) that fit the slot in my MBP. However, is it better to get an adapter and a standard SSD? Post I’ve come across are a couple years old so don’t know if things changed since then.

Hoping for something that’s an easy swap, but won’t die after a few months. I don’t do any heavy lifting with the Mac, just web based apps and maybe some light iMovie projects (hobby, not work).

Thanks!

It’s a 2017 non-touch bar MacBook Pro. I put it in the tittle, but I probably should have put in the post body as well.

Ok I assume then it's the 13".

As you've concluded, the non-touch bar model isn't soldered to the logic-board. Have you seen this from the OWC site?

Also, there was a Service Program for 128/ 256 GB SSDs which may apply. Just enter your serial number to check.

Thanks!

Oh, yeah 13” model. Haha. I guess I left that part out. 😅

Did not know about the service programs but when I checked my s/n on that database and it’s not a part of it either because it’s not in the range or no longer supported.

Will pick up one of those OWC ones.

Thanks again!
