I have out of town visitors interested in buying an iPhone and Watch for use in Asia.
In the past, Apple has specifically excluded iPhones from international coverage.
A search revealed that that policy has changed very recently, but it is mentioned in the context of India.
Apple's online U.S. warranty document still states:
...which is ambiguous at best, and IMO really kind of BS. Pick one side and commit to it.
There are Apple Stores in the intended destination, which probably means that it would be ok, but I don't want to bank on that.
Any recent experiences to confirm or refute whether this is a potential issue?

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD AND APPLE TV SERVICE.
Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.
