Hello, how are you?

For the past two years I have been on the Apple side of things.
Befor that, I had android phones, and now I am thinking about going back...

Until about a month ago, I was running all Apple.
I had na iMac, an iPad Air and an iPhone 5s.

About a month ago I sold my iMac ang got me a custom built gaming PC.
I am very happy with it since I can now have tons of fun gaming and for all the other tasks it is just as good or better than the iMac was.

In regard to the phone, I currently have a 5s I got a year ago at launch.
I was wanting to upgrade to the 6, but after the announcement, I just don't know...
There are two reasons for it... Form factor and price.

First the form factor. I've had the iPhone 5 and now the 5s.
I am really used to the form factor and like it very much.

I use my phone alot while walking, at a traffic light in the car, at the mal, you name it...
The form factor is just great to take out of the pocket, use it one handed and then slide it to the pocket again...
I just like the 4 inches for phone use.
With that said, the 5.5 inch iphone plus is out of consideration, leaving the 4.7 iPhone 6...
Here is what I'm not liking...
Increasing the screen size that much but keeping the resolution almost the same? That will give me bigger text but not a lot more real estate...
And the form factor... I am afraid it will be to big....

Which leads me to price...
I am from Portugal, and I buy my phones unlocked. We don't have the kind of contracts here like the US and UK.
Whith that said... an iPhone 6 64gb goes for 690 euros.
That is a price I really have a hard time paying for what I am getting when for 400 I can get a Xperia Z3 compact...

I just don't see the iPhone as a rational purchase anymore. And with the specs and price ratio, I just cannot justofy spending 300 more for an iPhone when everything I do with my phone can be done in Android and all the apps I use are available on android...

I am trying to convince myself to just get the the iPhone 6, but when it comes the time to checkout at the pre-order and accept those 690 euros...

What are your thoughts?

Cheers!

The price is set, so you'll have to decide if you are willing to spend the money.

As for the form factor, when I switched from an 3.7" phone to a 4.8" phone (both Android), I did find the larger phone to be a bit of a challenge to use at first. After a couple of weeks, I was pretty much used to the size. I found one handed use to be quite comfortable now.

Note that Android and Android apps have a different design convention. I have noticed that the better apps avoid putting buttons that you have to press at the top of the screens. Most of the time, the places you would tap or swipe on the screen would be on the bottom 3/4 of the screen which makes one handed use easy.

Also, on Android home screens, I can avoid putting app icons (and other screen objects) at the top row. Most of my most often used icons are in the middle where it is most comfortable to reach with my thumb while holding the phone with one hand. iOS has a linear home screen layout and you cannot put gaps, so you have to have something at the top row. I do use an iPhone as well (for work) and I try to put the lest commonly used apps towards the top or where it is harder to reach.

I don't think that a jump to the 4.7" screen size is going to be an issue for most people. It'll just take a little time to get use to, but I think most people will get used to it after using it a while.

I just switched from iPhone to Android a few months ago and honestly, I'm not going back. With the prices of the new phones and rate plans where I am, I can't justify an iPhone anymore. I got a Nexus 5 and absolutely love the phone. There was obviously some getting used to the OS and the different screen size but you learn to adapt, just with everything.

Been on Android from day one. I'm jumping ship because cell phone companies kill android with their skins. I have a GS5 and I LOATH Touchwiz. If Satan is the worse, Touchwiz is a close second! I think I'm just tired of the apps not being as good in Android. Specs are meaningless if the software isn't up to par.

I was almost about to write up a point / counter-point argument, but that would be exactly what you want so instead ...

I'm thinking of trying out an Android unit myself. I have an iP5 right now but the 6 just isn't doing it for me, at least not for the price.

If Google repeats what it did last year around this time just before the new Nexus is released, we will probably see a flash sale on the Nexus 5 ($100 off) which will bring it to $299 (32GB). I think I'll pick one up for sure and try it out.

You can get one for that price now on Swappa.

I went from iP5 to GN3 and its the best upgrade/change I have ever made.

Not interested in the iP6+ nor the GN4.

GN3 rocks.
