Currys, PC World stores to offer iPad in UK

Apple has signed an agreement with DSGi to sell the iPad in the U.K. at 139 Currys, PC World, and Dixons Travel outlet shops from launch, 60 days before rivals Comet, Tesco, John Lewis, and the Carphone Warehouse. The Times Online, citing an internal DSGi staff memo, reports that the iPad will go on sale at 9 a.m. local time Friday in 70 PC World stores, 28 Curry shops, 22 Dixons Travel outlets, and 19 combined PC World/Currys stores. The memo also said that “[d]emand is expected to be high, mirroring what happened in the US,” and added that a detailed list of which stores will be offering the tablet will be posted online this week. Apple began taking online iPad pre-orders, the initial allotment of which quickly sold out, on May 10 in the U.K., but otherwise only operates 27 of its own stores in the region, hence the need for a third-party retail launch partner in addition to the country’s Apple Premium Resellers.

I'm interested to find out which PC World and Currys stores are stocking it.

I'm starting work late on Friday, but just a few hundred metres from my work is a Currys and then a PC World, so I might head upto work at the normal time (7:20), get something to drink at costa coffee and wait for the store to open...

I spoke to PC world this morning and they are having iPads at launch day, but only in certain stores, yes for Leeds Headrow PC world
you can call the info line on 08445610000 and find if your local store does have them for launch day.

Also KRCS the apple premium reseller has confirmed to me this morning that (at least the Leeds store) will also have the iPad on launch day.

So now i wonder, do i go and buy one? it'd be a 32Gb wifi only, (thinking if i do need 3g i might go for the Three mifi dongle route on PAYG still equates to £50 cheaper than the 3g plus wifi model, i dunno!)

I was thinking this, but then I realized that if I go to other countries, I wouldn't be able to roam with a mifi, but if I pick up a microsim for the country, I'd be able to use an iPad data plan as they don't require contracts.

Don't quote me on this, but while googling yesterday I found a pdf (unfortunately I can't find the source, but it was one of the minor UK gadget blogs, so can't speak for its authenticity) that had an alleged list:

yep my one's not there either - go figure , but then i have not bought anything from there in many months or is that years ? mmm

Lol. Well, it means I have to go to Tottenham Hale - I go via there if I take the train. Tottenham Hale is a little more dangerous than Harlow I think...

yea I was about to say Tottenham Hale ! you'd be lucky to make it back with your pants let alone the Ipad...! :D

Both Poole and Bournemouth are stocking them ^^ Surprised as they are pretty small AND close compared to some places on the list. Wonder if they'll have any out.

Think Apple stores will have them on display?

Well, Bolton, Stockport, Manchester and Manchester Trafford, in addition to two Apple stores, so i should get sorted one way or another.

What are the airports about? All three Manchester terminals are listed? Duty Free iPads for long haul customers?

Yea, I want to know about the Duty free stores, I travel 2 days after launch so I'd love to get another one duty free and return the Apple one. :)

So do any of the stores know how many they'll have in yet? Deciding whether to head to PC World or brave an Apple Store.

it doesn't look like there is any info on how many they will have. I have a similar dilemma...

Interesting that when I search for stockists in Newcastle upon Tyne it doesn't mention the new Apple Store!
