A friend of mine (not me honest I waited) bought an iPod 13 days ago from Currys even though I told him to wait !!! Has he got any chance of returning it and getting a new one ??? What is Apple's 14 day policy ????

Apple's policy is for iPods bought from Apple Stores/Apple online. It has nothing to do with 3rd party resellers who will set their own return guidelines for non-faulty merchandise.

Many of them are happy to take things back (within a limited timescale; some say 7 days, others give you up to 28 days) but they usually specify that it still has to be sealed in original packaging and have a receipt. Since it's Dixons Store Group whose customer service isn't reknowned for its brilliance, I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope.

I assume he bought it in-store not online (or via the phone). Distance selling rules are different and allow you to return anything you buy at a distance within 28 days for a full refund for any reason.

He could try claiming it was an unwanted gift perhaps? Stores are often more understanding in this case (although if it has been obviously used this might not work)...

He's got Bob Hope.
Dixons/Currys/PC-World are a nightmare for returning goods, either opened or unopened. Even getting the manager involved rarely makes a difference, except when you have a screaming 11 month old in your arms.:D
Least you now have a friend who'll listen to your advice in future. :)

Worth a try. But as others have said he may be out of luck. DSG stores (Dixons, Currys and PCWorld) have been pretty bad on this in the past but things may have changed. I had a very positive experience returning a product earlier this year. I didn't even have to get a manager involved. Maybe I was just lucky or maybe they are now showing better customer service.

If all else fails - ebay.
